Front Panel to On Screen Display

Demonstration of v2.03 software upgrade for Universal Translator v2. Special function for Lexicon and Lumagen DVI, HDP, HDQ and Pro HDP owners.

For those that run all their video sources directly to their Lumagen one downside of doing this is not being able to see the On Screen Display (OSD) of the MC-12. If your Lexicon is within line of sight this is not a terribly large problem. But if you Lexicon is behind you or in another room it makes seeing what the Lexicon is doing more difficult.

The Universal Translator’s FP->OSD function will solve this. This new feature has the ability of taking just about whatever is on the FRONT PANEL display of the Lexicon and displaying it as an On Screen Display using a function of the Lumagen scalers. What you see on the Lexicon's front panel you see On Screen for 2 seconds time. Whenever the Lexicon's front panel changes the display pops back up on screen through the Lumagen. The UTv2 will also still integrate the two together for seamless video switching.

If you hit the FP (Front Panel Display) button on the Lexicon remote to turn off the Lexicon's front panel display the On Screen display through the Lumagen turns off as well. This lets you enable/disable the On Screen messages easily by remote control.

All on screen messages shown in the above video clip are put there using a combination of the Universal Translator v2.03 and a Lumagen scaler. Video sources no longer need to go through the Lexicon to have an on screen display from the Lexicon.

There is also a function to perform the same function with the Meridian 861.

FP->OSD Function

Another video showing how the Universal Translator works. This is with the Universal Translator taking the front panel display of the Lexicon and using the Lumagen to turn it into an On Screen display.

Notice also how when I switch inputs on the Lexicon from the front panel the Lumagen is switching inputs to match. This is the original function of the Universal Translator.

When one doesn’t want the On Screen display from the Lexicon on screen you just turn off the Front Panel display on the Lexicon and the Lexicon’s OSD shuts off as well. The Lumagen’s own OSD is still active.
