3x S/PDIF Digital Output board
Now available is a digital output board which can add up to 6 channels of digital audio output over 3x S/PDIF (coax) digital connections. On board buffering for the clock and data lines is provided. S/PDIF digital outputs are transformer isolated.
An assembled board is available for advanced DIYers to install in equipment of their choice. Factory installation is also available.
Some uses of the board:
Install 6 channels of S/PDIF outputs from DVD-A, BluRay and HD-DVD players for (3) S/PDIF coax connections to compatible Meridian processors as well as to the Lexicon MC-1.
Install in various digital crossovers to keep the audio in the digital domain to a compatible Class D amplifier(s) that accept S/PDIF inputs. The above pictures show the board installed in the Behringer DCX2496 for example. Using the Behringer’s S/PDIF input one could keep the entire signal chain from source, through the crossover and into digital amps that accept S/PDIF data.
For those using 6 channel analog pre-amps to listen to the built in DACs and analog line stages of their HD player the 3x SPDIF output board could be used to feed external high end DACs for highest possible sound quality.
Compatibility
3x S/PDIF output board is compatible with PCM data in Left Justified, Right Justified and I2S format. These are the standard 3 formats used internally in most equipment for PCM audio.
Supported master clock ratios of 128xFs, 256xFs and 512xFs. Clock ratio can be determined with a frequency counter by comparing the L/R bit clock frequency and the master clock frequency. More details are available in the DIY installation section.
Data format and master clock ratio is configured by dip switches on the board itself.

3x S/PDIF output board with coprocessor is no longer available. Replaced with the 3x S/PDIF Transceiver board which will automatically determine master clock ratio and costs less then the 3x SPDIF digital output board w/coprocessor.
